Former India cricketer R Ashwin's fake quote on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma went viral on social media. According to the viral post, Ashwin claimed that Rohit Sharma is targeting the 2027 ODI World Cup while adding that Virat Kohli may announce retirement soon due to family commitments.
"As far as I know Rohit is targeting 2027 odi wc while you may see Virat Kohli hanging up his boots soon because he wants to spend more time with his young family that is what Virat discussed to me few months back," the fake quote read.
When Ashwin came across the quote, he gave an apt reply to the user for sharing the fake quote. "Heartwarming to see humans still excelling at creative storytelling in this AI era. Nice script but maybe check with me next time before casting me in the lead role?" wrote Ashwin.
The speculations about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's retirement have been doing rounds for a while. After the players shambolic performance in Australia, which also saw Rohit Sharma drop himself from the final Test, it was rumoured that the veterans' career was in jeopardy, however, the senior players have performed well in the ICC Champions Trophy which might prolong their stay. While their Test futures are still uncertain, the BCCI might want to give the senior players another shot in the England series before taking a final call.
As far as ODIs are concerned, the players should continue playing for as long as they want because the performances have been top-notch. Whether they can continue till the 2027 World Cup or not, it will depend on the individual capacity and willingness to play. Both players retired from the T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup.
