Mohammad Amir has shown interest in playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he aims to share the dressing room with Virat Kohli at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Amir has often praised Kohli for his batting heroics. The duo shared the field several times after Amir's return to international cricket in 2016. Back then, Virat had called Amir a world-class bowler.
The left-arm pacer now wants to share the field with Kohli again and is aiming to play for RCB in IPL 2026. “Next year tak meri opportunity ban rahi agar hua to kyu nahi (By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL and if given the chance then why not). I will play in the IPL. I would like to play for RCB - RCB is my favourite IPL team," Amir said on Haarna Mana Hai show.
"Virat is great and admires talent. Virat gifted me his bat and I was overwhelmed by his action. I have always been a great admirer of his batting and he is of my bowling. I played some good knocks with his bat."
Amir has never been part of IPL. The Pakistani players have only played one IPL season (2008) so far. Amir though has played many foreign leagues and continues to play across the globe.
The 32-year-old announced his second retirement from international cricket in December 2024. He made his return to international cricket before the 2024 T20 World Cup and participated in the ICC event.
