India have a great run in the Champions Trophy 2025 as they won all their matches to qualify for the final against New Zealand on March 9 (Sunday) at the Dubai International Stadium. One of the star performers for India in the tournament has been Shreyas Iyer. He has come in to bat at no. 4 and has scored big runs continuously. He has scored 195 runs from 4 games at an average of 48.75, including two half-centuries and four continuous scores of 40. He is now set to be rewarded by the BCCI.
According to a report by The Times of India, Shreyas Iyer is set to regain his BCCI central contract after the apex Indian cricketing body left him out of the list in the last term for disciplinary issues. Ishan Kishan also lost his central contract in the last term, but has since not played any international cricket.
BCCI usually announces the player list before the IPL begins. However, the board has not yet announced the list, as they wanted to see how India fared in the Champions Trophy 2025 after a disastrous run in Test cricket in the past few months.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma To Be Demoted?
The four players who currently earn A+ central contracts from the BCCI are Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah. The board, according to the Times of India report, is set to re-evaluate these contracts, especially with the trio of Kohli, Rohit and Jadeja retiring from T20I cricket and a dismal run in Test cricket.
The contracts are usually awarded by the BCCI based on their performances for Team India throughout the year, and if India win the Champions Trophy 2025, then they all might retain their A+ contracts.
There is also a possibility that Axar Patel, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant might be promoted to the Grade A category once BCCI announces the central contract list for the upcoming season.
