Explained! What Will Happen If IND vs NZ Champions Trophy Final Results In A Tie? (Source: AP)

India will take on New Zealand in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Stadium on March 9. India have been outstanding in the tournament and reached the final undefeated. Meanwhile, New Zealand's only defeat came against India in the last group game. India defeated Australia to qualify for the final while New Zealand hammered South Africa to book a title clash with India.
New Zealand have dominated India in ICC knockout games, having beaten them in the final of the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy, the semifinal of the 2019 World Cup and the final of the 2021 World Test Championship. India, on the other hand, got the better of New Zealand in the semifinal of the 2023 World Cup. India would start the match as favourites given their familiarity with the conditions but New Zealand have also played a match at the venue so they also have a fair idea of how the pitch will play.

What If Champions Trophy Semifinal Ends In A Tie?

New Zealand were robbed of a win after the 2019 World Cup final with England ended in a tie. The match went to the Super Over which also resulted in a tie after which England were declared winners on the boundary count rule. The boundary count rule was done away with after the controversy and it was decided that teams would continue playing Super Overs in case of ties. If the Champions Trophy match ends in a tie, the teams will play Super Overs till the time the game gets a winner.

What Happens In Case Of A Washout?

If the match ends in a washout, the trophy will be shared by both teams. If that happens, this will be the second time India will share the Champions Trophy. In 2002, the final was washed out and India and Sri Lanka were declared joint winners.
