Gautam Gambhir could not hide his emotions after Australian captain Steve Smith was castled by Indian pacer Mohammed Shami in the first semi-final of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday.
Smith, who looked dangerous in the middle, was anchoring the innings for the Australians and looked ominous in the middle, with Australia eyeing a score of around 300.
But Shami bowled a low full-toss that the right-hander missed while aiming to go over extra cover, and the ball hit the off-stump. Gambhir's pumped-up reaction was caught on camera as Smith went the long walk back to the pavillion. The Indian coach also used some cuss words, expressing his happiness with the wicket as Smith was gone for 79.

It was Smith who won a good toss, but the batters could not exploit a much smoother pitch at the DICS, throwing their wickets away through silly shots.
Throughout his stay, Smith was the pillar of Australian innings, and was involved in three 50 stands — 52 with Travis Head for the second wicket, 56 for the third wicket Marnus Labuschagne and 54 for the fifth wicket with Carey
The task of scaling down a 250-plus total might not be a simple one in the semifinals, but India will not be unhappy as at one time they were staring at a 300-plus chase.
