India are currently taking on Australia in the first semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday (March 4). The Aussies put on a tricky score of 264 in the first innings, with India needing to equal their run chasing record in Champions Trophy knockouts to win the match and qualify for the final. Virat Kohli will be a key in this run chase and has already slammed a half-century. The star batter has now beaten Sachin Tendulkar to achieve a massive record.
Virat Kohli has become the second player in history after Sachin Tendulkar to score more than 8000 runs in run-chases in ODI history. He thus becomes the first player ever to score 8000 runs in ODI chases with an average of more than 60. In fact, he is the only player to score 1000+ runs in run-chases in ODIs with an average of more than 60.

Tendulkar still holds the record of scoring the most number of runs in chases in ODIs, with a tally of 8720.

Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. Steve Smith led the Aussie innings with a wonderful 73-run innings. Alex Carey also shined with the bat in the lower order as he scored a crucial half-century. Travis Head also gave them a fast start with a 39-run knock from just 33 balls.
Mohammed Shami was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he too three wickets for 48 runs. Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja also shone with 2 wickets each.
