Virat Kohli put on a Player of the Match performance against Australia as India qualified for the final of the 2025 Champions Trophy. The right-handed batsman scored a match-winning 84 off 98 balls. Virat mostly relied on running between the wickets and only hit 5 boundaries in his knock.
Virat shattered a huge record and created history. Virat is now India's highest run-scorer in the Champions Trophy. He has scored 746 runs in the tournament.
Among Indians, Virat is followed by Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 701 runs in the tournament. Dhawan played 2 editions of CT and announced himself on the world stage with brilliant performances in 2013. Dhawan is followed by Sourav Ganguly, who scored 665 runs. India will play their third consecutive CT final on March 9 in Dubai.
Virat, who once again shone with the bat, said that rotating strike was the most important thing on this pitch. "It was pretty similar to the other day against Pakistan as well. For me it is about understanding the basics and preparing my game accordingly.. just rotating strike because on this pitch partnerships are the most important thing. My only effort that day and today was to string in enough partnerships. The time that I got out the plan was to get 20 more and try and finish it off in a couple of overs. Usually that's the template I follow but sometimes you can't execute what you want to. (Aspects that pleased him the most about his innings) My timing," he said.
"The composure at the crease.. I wasn't feeling desperate and feeling happy knocking ones around and when as a batsman you start taking pride in taking singles into the gaps, that is when you know you are playing good cricket and you know you are in for a big partnership. In the game against Pakistan and today that was the most pleasing factor for me."
