Virat Kohli delivered a masterclass as he top-scored with 84 to help India enter the final of the Champions Trophy with a four-wicket win over Australia on Tuesday.
Kohli's 98-ball knock was laced with five beautiful fours. But what made it more special was how hard he worked through the innings by finding gaps and taking singles, converting ones into twos, easing the pressure and showing why he is truly one of the greats of the game.
Explaining the logic behind his game plan, the 36-year-old said, "It is about understanding the conditions and rotating the strike because partnerships on its pitch are important. It all depends on the conditions, and then I play my innings."
"My timing, my composure at the crease, I wasn't rushed. The singles that I took were the most pleasing part for me," he added.
Kohli's ability to remain unfazed under pressure was key to India's success.
"This game is all about pressure. If you go deep into the game, the opposition usually gives in. It is important to control your impulses. Even if the required run rate is six and over, I am not bothered by it," he further added.
