Jasprit Bumrah's incredible display in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) was rewarded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as the 31-year-old star pacer won the Player of the Month for December 2024.
Bumrah won the Player of the Series award in India's five-match Test series against Australia despite the visitors losing the series. Bumrah took 32 wickets in five matches in what is among the greatest performances by a visiting player in a series Down Under.
Out of the five Tests, three took place in December, and Bumrah was the shining light of the Indian team at Adelaide, Brisbane, and Melbourne. The Indian vice-captain took 22 wickets in three matches with two five-wicket hauls at an average of 14.22.
Jasprit Bumrah Helps India Create History
Bumrah has won the ICC Player of the Month for the second time in 2024 after also clinching the prize in June last year for his incredible display in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The star pacer won the Player of the Tournament (POTM) as India lifted an ICC event after 11 years after clinching 15 wickets in eight matches at an economy of 4.17.
Bumrah is only the second India after Shubman Gill to win the award twice. Gill won the award in January and September 2023. Bumrah and Gill have ensured that India is the first team to have two male players win the award twice and the only team to have two cricketers secure the elusive crown twice in a calendar year. Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis is the only non-Indian player to be awarded the top prize two times in a year after securing the award in March and September 2024.
Babar Azam is the only male player to win the award thrice, while Shakib Al Hasan and Harry Brook were bestowed the honour two times too.
