The chances of Virat Kohli returning to the Ranji Trophy after 12 years have increased as he has been named in Delhi's probable squad for the second round of the tournament. Virat hasn't confirmed his availability for the match against Jharkhand yet. Along with him, DDCA has also named Rishabh Pant and Harshit Rana in the probable team.
Recently, India head coach Gautam Gambhir said that he wants the players to participate in domestic cricket when they aren't on the national duty. During the BCCI review meeting, the board reportedly directed the players to participate in domestic cricket.
Virat can participate in at least one Ranji Trophy match before he can take a break prior to the ODI series against England. Delhi are scheduled to face Saurashtra in an away game from January 23 to 26. They will face Railways from January 30 to February 2. The India-England ODI series is scheduled to kick off on February 6. Virat hasn't played a Ranji Trophy match since 2012. His last domestic match came in 2013.
An official update on Virat's participation should be out in the next few days. He struggled on the Australia tour and managed to score 190 runs in five matches. Virat kicked off the series with a century in Perth.
Rohit Sharma to turn up for Mumbai?
While nothing is confirmed, there are high chances of Rohit Sharma turning up for Mumbai in their next Ranji Trophy game against Jammu and Kashmir. Rohit played his previous Ranji Trophy match in 2015.
He made his return to domestic cricket in 2018 and played for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He couldn't play the final of the List A tournament due to his India commitments. Mumbai defeated Delhi to win the title. Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer will turn up for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy.
