The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the squad for the two-match Test series against West Indies at home. Pakistan recently suffered a 2-0 defeat to South Africa and would be eyeing a return to winning ways. The Pakistan squad has seven changes from the team that played in South Africa. The top players retained in the squad for the West Indies series are -Shan Masood, Saud Shakeel, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Rizwan, Nauman Ali, and Salman Ali Agha. Returning to the lineup are Abrar Ahmed, Imam-ul-Haq, and Mohammad Huraira. Aamir Jamal, Mohammad Abbas, Mir Hamza, and Naseem Shah have been rested from the series. Mohammad Ali and uncapped Kashif Ali were added to the squad to make up for the rested players.
Spin played a major role in Pakistan's series win over England at home. The team could follow the same strategy against West Indies as well and thus recalled Sajid Khan to partner Noman Ali and Abrar Ahmed in the squad. Former Pakistan U19 and Shaheen's captain Rohail Nazir has been added to the squad as a cover for injured wicketkeeper batter Haseebullah.
The two-match Test series against the West Indies will commence in Multan, with the first Test scheduled to begin on January 17, followed by the second Test starting on January 25.
The series is part of the World Test Championship cycle but stands of no importance as both Pakistan and West Indies were knocked out of final race. South Africa and Australia will play the final at Lord's from June 11.
