Why India Are Wearing Black Armbands Against Australia In ICC Champions Trophy Semifinal?

India are up against Australia in the semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Stadium. Indian players were seen wearing black armbands in the semifinal match. This is because of the passing away of former cricketer Padmakar Shivalkar who played 124 first-class matches, claiming an impressive 589 wickets at an outstanding average of 19.69. His most notable performance came in the Ranji Trophy when he took 8 for 16 and 5 for 18 in the 1972–73 final, leading Mumbai (then Bombay) to a resounding victory over Tamil Nadu.

The BCCI mourned the demise of the Indian cricket legend. “Indian cricket has lost a true legend today. Padmakar Shivalkar’s mastery over left-arm spin and his deep understanding of the game made him a revered figure in domestic cricket. His exceptional career and selfless contribution to Mumbai and Indian Cricket will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” Roger Binni said.
Meanwhile, Australia won the toss and opted to bat. They made a plethora of changes and brought in Tanveer Sangha and Cooper Connolly. India, on the other hand, went unchanged.
"I was prepared to do both. When you're in two minds, it's better to lose the toss. The pitch keeps changing its nature. You have to play good cricket. We've played good cricket in all three games and that's what we'll try to do. It's going to be challenging. We are playing with the same team. We want to continue from where we left. Now that we are bowling first, we have to bowl well and restrict them to as low as possible," said Rohit Sharma at the toss.
India have been outstanding in the ICC Champions Trophy. They defeated Bangladesh in the first game before defeating Pakistan and New Zealand to top Group A. The conditions are heavily in favour of them and the Men in Blue would be eyeing a berth in the final. Australia have handed India many heartbreaking blows in the past and the Rohit Sharma-led side will be keen to turn the tables this time around.
