Virat Kohli etched his name in the record books during the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final between India and Australia on Tuesday (March 4) at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday (March 4) and achieved a huge milestone on the field after Steve Smith won the toss and chose to bat first.
Kohli broke a long-standing record of Rahul Dravid after taking the catch of Josh Inglis from Ravindra Jadeja which was the fourth wicket India took in the match in the evenly poised match with the Australian batting unit putting up a memorable showing.
Virat Kohli Creates History
Inglis' catch which Kohli took at short cover made the 36-year-old star as the player with the most catches for India in international cricket history. This achievement comes just days after the former India captain broke Mohammad Azharuddin's record for the most catches in ODI cricket for India.
Kohli has now taken 335 wickets across formats for India and has gone past Dravid, who took 334 catches in international cricket. Dravid took 332 catches while playing for the Indian team and two while playing for Asia XI and World XI. No other Indian player has taken more than 300 catches in international cricket.

Across world cricket, only Ross Taylor (351), Ricky Ponting (364), and Mahela Jayawardene (440) have taken more catches than the Indian cricket legend is concerned.
Later Kohli also took the catch to dismiss Nathan Ellis and now has the second most catches in ODI cricket with 161 catches to his name and has gone ahead of Ricky Ponting (160). He has taken 121 catches in Test cricket, which is the third most by an Indian behind Dravid (210) and VVS Laxman (135). He has 54 catches to his name in T20Is. Among Indian players, only Rohit Sharma (65) has more, while Hardik Pandya has as many.
