Rohit Sharma is currently captaining Team India in the Champions Trophy 2025, where the Men in Blue have won three matches on the trot and qualified for the semi-final and are the odds-on favourite to win the tournament overall. Amidst this, Congress National Spokesperson Shama Mohamed made a derogatory remakr on the Indian captain, calling him 'fat' and the 'most unimpressive Indian captain ever' in a now-deleted post on X. She has faced criticism from all quarters, and now Rohit's childhood coach Dinesh Lad has responded to this.
"Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman! Need to lose weight! And of course, the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had," Shama Mohamed had written.
In an interaction with IANS, Dinesh Lad slammed Shama Mohamed saying that passing such derogatory remarks for a well-performing cricketer and captain is shameful. He also called these remarks damaging to India's reputation as a country.
“A cricketer who is doing so well for the nation, under whom the team is playing very well. Such comments against that player are not at all good. By this, you are also damaging the country’s image. This is really shameful," Lad said.

BCCI Responds To Shama Mohamed Statement
BCCI secretary Devajeet Saikia has also slammed to Shama Mohamed's 'unfortunate statement' on Rohit Sharma, that too in the middle of a marquee tournament like the Champions Trophy. He said that this kind of comment may have an effect on the entire team
"This is a very unfortunate statement. This kind of comment from responsible quarters, especially at a time when the country’s national team is in the middle of a marque ICC tournament is uncalled for. This kind of irresponsible derogatory and baseless statement may have some adverse effect on an individual or the entire team. Therefore, I hope people can refrain from passing comments for their own personal publicity," Saikia said in an interaction with Times Now.
