India brushed past the challenge posrd by New Zealand in the final game of the group stage in the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. They won by 44 runs as they topped the group B with 6 points from three games. This means that the Men in Blue would be taking on Australia in the first semi-final at Dubai on March 4 (Tuesday). This would be the first time that the two sides take on each other in an ODI since the heartbreaking night of the World Cup 2023 final. Hence, India would be looking for a strong playing XI to take on the reigning ODI World Cup champions.
No Change In Batting Lineup
India might not make any change to their batting lineup. Rohit Sharma is set to open the batting with Shubman Gill, as both of them would be looking to get some form. Afterbeing dismissed courtesy a stunning catch from Glenn Philips, Virat Kohli would be looking to continue the momentum he showed against Pakistan in the semi-final. Shreyas Iyer will continue to bat at no.4, a place where he has scored to back-to-back fifties in the Champions Trophy 2025.
Axar Patel will come out to bat at no.5 ahead of KL Rahul, who will come out at no.6. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will round up the batting lineup at 7 and 8.
Mohammed Shami OUT, Varun Chakravarthy STAYS
Varun Chakravarthy played in the match vs New Zealand in place of Harshit Rana who was rested. He stole the show with a five-wicket haul on his Champions Trophy debut. He will thus continue to stay in his place in the playing XI vs Australia as well. Mohammed Shami did not look in great rhythm against New Zealand, and hence he might be dropped in favour of Harshit Rana.
India will go in with four spinners on a turning Dubai track, like they did vs New Zealand with Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy.
