The Indian cricket team will face Australia in the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final in what will be the first meeting between the two sides in an ODI game since the 2023 Cricket World Cup which took place on 19th November 2023. New Zealand will face South Africa in Lahore on Wednesday (March 5).
After winning all three matches in the league stage, the Rohit Sharma-led topped Group A and will face Australia at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday (March 4). On the other hand, Australia beat England before their games against South Africa and Afghanistan were washed out meaning they finished second. Although not a single ball was bowled in the Australia-South Africa tie, the two-time champions were on the verge of a win against Afghanistan before rain interrupted the match.
On the other hand, New Zealand beat Pakistan and Bangladesh before losing to India. The Proteas are also unbeaten in the tournament so far after comfortable wins over England and Afghanistan on either side of the washout agianst Australia.
Although this is the first ODI match between the two sides since the Cricket World Cup final, India and Australia faced each other in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue won the match, which was the last match of the second round. The result ensured Australia were knocked out of the tournament and failed to reach the semi-final.
Just a week after the Cricket World Cup final, India and Australia also played a five-match T20I series in India which the Suryakumar Yadav-led side won 4-1. However, Australia have the bragging rights having recently defeated India by a 3-1 margin in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
