Matt Henry etched his name in the history books during the 2025 Champions Trophy Group A clash between India and New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday (March 2) as he took a five-wicket haul in the last league stage match of the tournament.
Henry put New Zealand on top in the powerplay after Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. The 33-year-old took the wickets of the in-form pair of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, who both scored centuries in India's first two matches of the tournament.
Later, the pacer returned to get the wickets of Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, and Mohammed Shami in the slog overs as New Zealand restricted India to a total of 249. Henry ended with a figure of 5/43 in 10 overs.
Matt Henry Creates History
As a result of his stunning spell on a spin-friendly track in the Dubai heat, Henry became the first bowler in history to take a five-wicket haul against India in the Champions Trophy. Previously, Pakistan pacer Naveen-Ul-Hasan held the record for the best bowling figures against India. Naveed, Shoaib Akhtar, and Douglas Hondo all had taken a four-wicket haul against the Men in Blue in the competition.
