Star India allrounder Hardik Pandya was seen training hard for the 'big season' ahead of the five-match T20I series against England, which begins on January 22 in Kolkata. This series marks his much-anticipated return to the national side setup after a small hiatus from international cricket. Pandya is also in contention for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
Pandya's inclusion in the team against England marks his return to international cricket after his last appearance in the T20I series against South Africa in November last year.
Pandya was last seen in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match between Delhi and Baroda on January 5, which his team won by five wickets, thanks to his brother Krunal's all-round performance. Watch the video here:
Pandya doesn't serve any more leadership roles in the T20I side, despite leading the team for almost a year in the shortest format. Suryakumar Yadav is now the captain while Axar Patel has been named the vice-captain in a surprise move.
Pandya and Rinku Singh are expected to bat at No. 5 five and No. 6, respectively and they will be followed by Axar in the batting order in the England T20Is.
The two pacers for the first couple of matches will be Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Shami, with Pandya as the third seamer. The two wrist spinners, Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi will come into the equation to complete the expected playing XI.
The T20I series against England begins with the first T20I in Kolkata on January 22, followed by games in Chennai (Jan 25), Rajkot (Jan 28), Pune (Jan 31) and Mumbai (Feb 2).
India and England will then face off in a three-match ODI series from February 6, where Pandya's selection will be crucial to ensure he finds a place in the squad for the Champions Trophy as well.
