Former RCB wicketkeeper Anuj Rawat seems to be in trouble after skipping Delhi’s Ranji Trophy camp to join Gujarat Titans’ IPL preparatory camp. Ahead of the IPL 2025, the IPL 2022 champions kickstarted their preparations in Surat from Monday.
Delhi are set to take on Saurashtra in the next round of the Ranji Trophy from January 23. The match will take place in Rajkot. Rawat’s attendance at the IPL camp just days before Delhi’s Ranji Trophy clash triggered controversy at a time when BCCI has insisted players take domestic red-ball cricket seriously.
Gujarat Titans issued a statement confirming that a number of players took part on the first day of their preparation camp in Surat.
“Gujarat Titans have commenced their preparations for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with a training camp in Surat.
“Players like Anuj Rawat, Ishant Sharma, Jayant Yadav, Kumar Kushagra, Mahipal Lomror and Arshad Khan have joined the team in the camp along with the coaches and support staff
“The 2022 champions built a strong 25-member squad in the mega auction, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last year, with the acquisition of top players including South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, England's Jos Buttler, one of India’s leading fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and all-rounder Washington Sundar.”
On being quizzed whether the player sought necessary permission before joining the GT camp DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma denied any such information. Sharma who is also the convenor of the senior state team selection committee told PTI, "I have no knowledge that Anuj has skipped the ongoing Ranji Trophy camp to attend the IPL team's camp. Ideally, he needs to take permission from the state association. We have two Ranji games left and the camp is on at the Kotla. I don't know who gave him the permission to skip the Ranji Trophy camp."
