14-Year-Old Mumbai Batter Create History With Brutal 346 Off 157 Balls (Source: BCCI)
Fourteen-year-old Ira Jadhav created history as she slammed an unbeaten 346 in 157 balls to help Mumbai post 563-3 against Meghalaya in the Women's Under-19 One Day Trophy. The stunning knock was laced with 42 boundaries and 16 sixes. The knock helped the youngster become the first Indian women's cricketer to score a triple hundred in limited-overs cricket. She also became the first cricketer to score a triple hundred in any BCCI-organised tournament.
Jadhav, who opened the innings for Mumbai, stitched a 274-run stand for the second wicket with captain Hurley Gala, who scored a brilliant 116 off 79 balls. The partnership was followed by a stand of 186 with Diksha Pawar (39). Against such an onslaught, three of Meghalaya's bowlers conceded 100 runs or more.
Jadhav's brutal knock helped her grab headlines. Interestingly, she was one of the youngest players to register for the Women's Premier League (WPL) but went unsold. However, the knock today would put him on the radar of the franchises for coming seasons. Jadhav is one of the three standby players for the women's U-19 World Cup and her knock today has got her a step closer to India debut.
After the stunning knock, Jadhav opened up on her cricketing idol and revealed that she is inspired by India batter Jemimah Rodrigues.
“There is one player who I think is my cricketing idol—Jemimah Rodrigues. I love the way she handles her teammates, the energy she gets into the team, her game, and her energy on the field. I am aiming for the National team. I also want to represent India at the World Cup,” Jadhav said as quoted by the Indian Express.
“It was the time I scored my first century (163) in a mixed team. This was in Pune a few years ago and the teams had a mix of boys and girls. That gave me the confidence that I could do well,” she added.
Meanwhile, it was a painful game for Meghalaya, who were bowled out for just 19 runs in 25.4 overs. Mumbai's bowlers, led by Jeeya Mandrawadkar and Yayati, rattled Meghalata, taking three wickets each for just 4 and 3 runs respectively. Ritika Yadav and Akshaya Shinde also chipped in with two wickets each.
