India pacer Mohammed Shami is all set to make a comeback to the Indian team for the England ODI series and the ICC Champions Trophy. Shami last played for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 where he topped the bowling charts, however, injuries to ankle and knee meant that he was not available for India selection. Shami made a comeback to domestic cricket, playing Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and Vijay Hazare, proving that he is fit to don the national colours again.
Mohammed Shami On Cusp Of History
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami could create history in the three-match ODI series against England before the Champions Trophy. If Shami finds a place in India's squad, he could become the fastest bowler to reach 200 ODI wickets. Shami currently has 195 wickets in 100 ODI innings and he needs five wickets in the next innings to become the fastest to the landmark. Mitchell Starc is the fastest to reach 200 ODI wickets in 102 innings.
The Indian record for fastest to 200 ODI wickets is held by Ajit Agarkar, who achieved the feat in 133 matches so Shami has enough time to break the Indian record, but it would be sweeter for Shami if he break the world record of fastest to 200 ODI wickets.

Shami's availability will be a huge boost to India who are sweating over the fitness of ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah struggled with back issues in the fifth Test against Australia and would need a fitness clearance from the NCA for the Champions Trophy. With IPL and a crucial England tour lined up, India might not risk Bumrah in the Champions Trophy.
