World Cup 2023 was a massive heartbreak for the Indian cricket fans. India were hot favourites to win the title at home, and they played like champions, reaching the final undefeated before being hammered by Australia in the final. The next World Cup will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027. There is a lot of time left for the event and the team that could play the World Cup would be very different from the current team.
There is a big question mark on the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The veterans wanted to win a World Cup but their dreams were shattered by Australia. Had India won the tournament, the players might have retired from ODIs, but they decided to hang around. Still, 2027 is a long way to go and it is highly unlikely that Rohit and Virat would be there in the India squad for World Cup 2027. Same goes with Ravindra Jadeja, who is unlikely to be playing ODIs for another 2-3 years.
The ODI season has begun, with the Champions Trophy lined up, and India would want to build a strong core for the World Cup 2027. A few batters who have great odds of being in the India squad are - Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav. Someone like a Riyan Parag could also come into the scheme of things. In terms of all-rounders - Hardik Pandya, if he can stay fit, will be one of the key players, along with Axar Patel, Nitish Reddy, and Washington Sundar. Jasprit Bumrah should be around as well and might be the Indian captain post Rohit Sharma era. Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Mohammed Siraj could form the core of India's pace attack in the World Cup 2027.
