Team India is set to host England in a long white-ball series, starting with a five-match T20I series. The Ajit Agarkar-headed selection committee will soon name the squad for the T20I series. The selectors will reportedly name the ODI squad at a later date. Ahead of the selection meeting, India have suffered a blow as a 22-year-old player is set to miss the series.
The Times of India has reported that Mayank Yadav will miss the complete series due to a back injury. Mayank has been in the scheme of things in T20I cricket since his IPL debut.
He was handed his maiden T20I call-up after he got fit and he made his debut against Bangladesh. He missed the South Africa tour due to the injury. Mayank missed the complete domestic season and now he is set to miss another international series.
"He's suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He hasn't even been named amongst the probables for Delhi's first Ranji match of the second leg against Saurashtra from January 23," a BCCI source was quoted as saying by TOI.
It means that Mayank will now make his return in IPL 2025. Lucknow Super Giants retained the express pacer for Rs 11 crore before the IPL 2025 mega-auction. He has played 17 List A and as many T20s since his debut in 2021. He has also featured in a first-class game for Delhi.
India vs England series schedule
The India-England white-ball series will kick off with T20Is. The T20Is will be played on January 22, 25, 28, 31 and February 2 in Kolkata, Chennai, Rajkot, Pune and Mumbai, respectively.
The action will move to Nagpur for the first ODI to be played on February 6. The next two ODIs will take place on February 9 and 12 in Cuttack and Ahmedabad, respectively. Rohit Sharma will lead the Men in Blue in the ODI series.
