Max Verstappen Creates History

Max wrote his name in the history books by becoming just the third Formula Driver in history to win the drivers championship despite his team finishing third or below in the title. The last instance of the same came in 1983 when Nelson Piquet was crowned world champion despite Brabham finishing third in the table.
Coincidentally, Piquet is Max's girlfriend Kelly's father. The couple will soon become parents after announcing their pregnancy last week.
In 1982, Keke Rosberg won the drivers championship while Williams' finished fourth in the table. This remains the lowest a world champions' team has finished in the constructors championship.
Max is only the second driver after Nelson to win the drivers championship twice despite the team not winning the constructors. During the 27-year-old's first title win in 2021, Mercedes were crowned champions.
