Nitish Kumar Reddy has been India's most consistent batsman in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and he has scored runs every time he is out on the crease. Nitish, who had only played 23 first-class matches before his Test debut in Perth, scored 41 in his maiden outing. He remained unbeaten on 38 off 27 balls in the second innings.
The right-handed batsman scored 42 off 54 balls in the first innings of the Adelaide Test and followed up with another quick 42-run knock. Nitish became the first Indian in 53 years to achieve a huge record and he joined Sunil Gavaskar in an elite list.
Nitish is now the first Indian since Gavaskar to be the top-scorer three times in the first four innings of his Test career. Gavaskar, who made his India debut in 1971, scored 65 and 67 in his first Test. He scored a brilliant 116 in the second Test and followed up with an unbeaten 64 in India's second innings.
Gavaskar, the first batsman to score 10000 runs in Tests, was India's top-run-scorer in the 2nd innings of the first Test and both innings of the 2nd Test.
Nitish is enjoying a purple patch with the bat and will hope to finally end his wait to score a half-century. He has also contributed with ball and scalped 2 wickets.
Australia level series 1-1
Australia thumped India by 10 wickets in the 2nd Test to level the series 1-1. The Pat Cummins-led side bowled out India for a mere total of 180 in the first innings and put on a total of 337. India only managed a total of 175 in their second innings, setting a target of 19 for Australia.
The action will now move to Brisbane's Gabba, which will host the 3rd Test match from December 14 to 18. India famously ended Australia's 31-match undefeated run at Gabba in 2021.
