Sunil Gavaskar's recent comment on the Pakistan cricket team hasn't gone down well with their cricket fraternity and it has drawn some strong reactions. Recently, former Pakistan head coach, Jason Gillespie called Gavaskar's statement 'nonsense'. Former Pakistan captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq seemed to be angry with Gavaskar's statement and he used a harsh tone for the India legend.
Speaking on a Pakistani show, Inzamam asked Gavaskar to be careful with his words and said: "Gavaskar sahab should see stats. He is an elder and senior; we respect him. But when talking about someone's country....your team has played well. You have the right to praise your team. But it's right to say about another team like this. Please be careful with your words, I am saying this in a slightly harsh tone."
Gavaskar recently said that India's B team can give Pakistan a run for their money. His statement came after India's win over the Men in Green in the league stage of the ongoing 2025 Champions Trophy.
"I think a B team certainly (can give Pakistan a run for their money). C team, I am not too sure. But a B team will be very, very hard to beat for Pakistan in their current form," the former India captain said.
After losing to Pakistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup, the Men in Blue defeated them in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma-led India defeated Pakistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup as well.
Virat Kohli slammed a century against Pakistan in the ongoing CT as India chased down the target of 242 with ease. Pakistan crashed out of the league stage on the fifth day of the tournament. They are the co-hosts of the ICC event.
India were scheduled to play their matches in Dubai. Since the two-time CT winners reached the final, the summit clash will also take place in Dubai on Sunday (March 9).
