India are all set to take on New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday (March 9) at the Dubai International Stadium. Rohit Sharma will look to lead the Men in Blue to their second ICC trophy in under a year. He has not yet performed up to the mark with the bat, and would finally look to get a big score and score a half-century at the very least. In fact, the Indian captain is set to create history as he might become the first player in the world to achieve a unique feat.
At the Dubai International Stadium, Rohit Sharma has 421 runs. If he manages to score 79 runs in the final, the Indian skipper will become the first player in history to score 500 ODIs runs at the venue. If he scores just 4 more runs he will overtake Scotland's Richie Berrington to become the player with the most runs in ODIs.
By qualifying for the Champions Trophy 2025 final, Rohit Sharma already created history by becoming the first captain in history to lead his team into the finals of the Champions Trophy, ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup and the World Test Championship.

Rohit Sharma's Captaincy Future In Doubt?

According to a report by The Times of India, the result of the India vs New Zealand Champions Trophy 2025 final is set to determine the future course of action for Rohit Sharma as ODI and Test captain, as the BCCI looks to have a stable leadership keeping the ODI World Cup 2027 in mind.
The report also states that Rohit Sharma believes that there is still some cricket left in him, and he might not retire. But whether he would remain the Test and ODI captain after the Champions Trophy is set to be determined.
"Rohit still believes there is some cricket left in him. He has been told to communicate his plans going forward. Retiring is his call but there will be another discussion around continuing with captaincy. Rohit himself understands the need to have a stable captain if the team wants to prepare for a World Cup. There have been talks with Kohli too but there doesn't seem to be much anxiety around him,” a BCCI source said.
