Suryakumar Yadav Supports Rohit Sharma After Fat Shaming Controversy: 'If You See Last Four Years...' (Source: AP)
India T20I captain backed ODI and Test skipper Rohit Sharma after a political leader fat-shamed him during the ICC Champions Trophy. Under Rohit, India qualified for the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy final, however, his fitness was questioned by a Congress party leader which created a massive controversy.
Suryakumar defended Rohit Sharma and highlighted his leadership qualities and commitment to Indian cricket team that saw him lead India to four ICC finals. Rohit led India to a win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and took the team to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, World Test Championship 2023 and the ICC Champions Trophy.
“If you see him as a captain, in the last four years he has taken the team to the finals of four ICC trophies, so it is a big thing. If a person is playing cricket for 15-20 years, it is a big thing. I know how important fitness is for him. I have seen him closely, he works very hard – according to me, he is at the top & I wish him all the best for the finals,” Suryakumar stated.
Meanwhile, Rohit would look to lead India to yet another ICC title when he leads India in the final against New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium. India have been a brute force in the ICC Champions Trophy and qualified for the final undefeated. They also defeated New Zealand in the last league game.
New Zealand, however, have also played good cricket and having already played a match at the venue, they will be better prepared for the final. New Zealand have always done well against India in the ICC knockouts, with a 3-1 head to head record, and they'd look to add more misery to India's ICC final heartbreaks when the teams meet on March 9.
