KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The 2025 Champions Trophy is co-hosted by Pakistan
  • Pakistan finished the tournament without a win
The chaos around the Pakistan cricket team has seen Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis face heat from ex-skipper Rashid Latif, who went on a furious rant against the legendary pacers. Both Wasim and Waqar are regarded among the greatest pacers to ever play the game and also captained the Men in Green across formats for a long time.
However, Latif was not too pleased with them and claimed during the 'Haarna Mana Hai' show on GEO TV that it would be better for Pakistan's cricket if they distanced themselves from the sport. Asked to elaborate on the point, the former Pakistan captain took a dig at the duo for staying in Dubai and accused them of being motivated by financial desires.
"Yeh Dubai ke laundon ne tabahi pehla diya hai. Dono ek dusre ke taarifen kar kar ke khush ho raha hai. Zindagi bhar ladte rahe, hume aag me phek diya aur...kamal log hai. Inke aage paisa phenko, yeh kuch bhi kardenge (Dubai boys have created a ruckus. They are happy praising each other. They fought throughout their career, which hurt Pakistan cricket...interesting people. Throw money in front of them; they will do anything)," said Latif in an interaction with Dr. Nauman Niaz on the YouTube channel 'Caught Behind.'

Pakistan Cricket Team In Major Crisis

The 2025 Champions Trophy was the first major tournament that Pakistan were hosting in 29 years but it proved to be a disaster as the Mohammad Rizwan-led team finished the tournament in last place in Group A after taking just one point in three games. After losing to New Zealand by 60 runs in Karachi and suffering defeat to India by six wickets while their match against Bangladesh was washed out.
Talking about Wasim and Waqar, they are part of an expert panel for the official broadcaster of the event in Pakistan. The show also features former Indian cricketers Nikhil Chopra and Ajay Jadeja.
