- Rachin has made two tons in the tournament
- Rachin has five centuries in ICC tournaments
Rachin Ravindra etched his name in the history books during the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore with a stunning century after Mitchell Santner won the toss and chose to bat first.
Aiming to play India in the final on Sunday (March 9) at the Dubai International Stadium, Rachin made 108 runs in 101 balls to set the stage for New Zealand to post a total above the 350-run mark on the board. The 25-year-old found solid support from Kane Williamson as the duo put a partnership of 164 runs on the board. The former New Zealand captain also made a ton.
This is Rachin's second century of the tournament after a ton on his tournament debut against Bangladesh. The youngster had missed New Zealand's victory over Pakistan in the opening match of the competition due to a freak face injury. This knock means Rachin now has five centuries in ICC tournaments after scoring three tons in the 2023 World Cup.
Rachin Ravindra Creates History In Lahore
With his splendid effort in Lahore, Rachin has become the youngest player to hit 5 tons in ICC ODI events. The left-handed batter is the first player to reach five tons at the age of 25. Previously, Sachin Tendulkar held the record with three tons. Sri Lanka's Upul Tharanga is the only player to have multiple tons in global events before turning 26 as he two centuries in the 2006 Champions Trophy in India.
Rachin also has seven 50+ scores in ICC tournaments (ODIs) before turning 25, which is the second-most in history, only behind Sachin Tendulkar (9). Jacques Kallis and Tharanga had six each while Steve Smith, Shubman Gill, Yuvraj Singh, and Ab de Villiers played five knocks of 50 runs while aged 25 or younger.
Rachin is also the quickest player in history to hit 5 tons in ICC tournaments after reaching the milestone in just 13 innings. He has broken Shikhar Dhawan's record, who took 15 innings to reach the milestone.

Rachin is also only the second player in history to score multiple tons in both his debut campaign in the ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy after Shikhar Dhawan, who scored two tons each in the 2013 Champions Trophy and 2015 World Cup. No other player has made five centuries after his first two ICC tournament appearances.
Rachin has become the first player to score two centuries in ICC event matches in Pakistan. While 20 players have made tons in global events in the country, no one managed to reach the milestone twice across the three tournaments hosted by the 2017 World Champions.
Rachin now has five centuries in ICC event matches in Asia, which is the most for a player not from the continent. Quinton de kock is second on the elite list having made four tons, all of which came in the 2023 World Cup. Overall, only he is level with Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, who also have made five centuries in global events on Asian soil.
Aged 25 years 107 days, Rachin is the third youngest player to score a century in a knockout match of an ICC ODI tournament after South Africa's Jacques Kallis (23 years, 14 days) in the 1998 Champions Trophy SF vs Sri Lanka at Dhaka and Sri Lanka's Avishka Gunawardene (23 years 131 days) in the 2000 Champions Trophy Pre-Quarter-Final vs West Indies at Nairobi.
With five centuries in ICC ODI tournaments, Rachin is now level with Joe Root, Gibbs, Chris Gayle, and Tilakartene Dilshan and only behind David Warner (6), Ricky Ponting (6), Kumar Sangakkara (6), Ricky Ponting (6), Virat Kohli (6), Shikhar Dhawan (6), Sachin Tendulkar (7), Sourav Ganguly (7), and Rohit Sharma (8).
Interestingly, both of Rachin's tons in the 2025 Champions Trophy have come in different batting positions. He scored a century against Bangladesh after walking out to bat at number four before opening the batting today. Even in the 2023 World Cup, his three-figures scores against England and Australia came while batting at number three before getting to the milestone as an opener against Pakistan.
Rachin is also the first player in history to score each of his first five ODI centuries in ICC events. Previously Bangladesh batter Mahmudullah made his first four tons in 50-over cricket in an ICC tournament match.
