Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The right-arm pacer was ruled out of the 2025 Champions Trophy and the fans are eagerly waiting for his on-field return. Bumrah is likely to make his return in IPL 2025, scheduled to kick off on March 22.
Bumrah will continue to play for Mumbai Indians (MI). He was MI's costliest retention and has a salary of Rs 18 crore. MI kept their core and also retained the services of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav.
Jasprit Bumrah set to create history
Jasprit Bumrah is set to create history and overtake Lasith Malinga when he takes the field for MI in IPL 2025. The senior pacer is just 6 wickets away from going past Malinga in the list of bowlers with the most wickets for MI.
Bumrah, who made his IPL debut for MI in 2013, has 165 wickets in 133 matches. He has been part of MI since the start of his IPL career.
With 170 wickets, Malinga is MI's highest-taker. He made his IPL debut for MI in 2009 and only played for one franchise throughout his career. His last IPL appearance came in the 2019 IPL final.
Harbhajan Singh sits at the third spot. The former MI captain scalped 127 wickets in 136 matches. The senior spinner was part of MI from 2008 to 2017.
Hardik Pandya to continue as MI's captain
Hardik Pandya will continue to lead MI in IPL 2025. He made his return to MI from Gujarat Titans via trade before IPL 2024. Hardik-led MI finished at the last spot in the points table.
MI retained Hardik as their captain despite their below-par performance. The five-time IPL Champions will kick off their campaign against Chennai Super Kings on March 23 in Chennai.
