Virat Kohli shattered multiple world records during the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final between India and Australia at the Dubai International Stadium with a splendid knock of 84 runs in 98 balls to guide the Men in Blue into the summit clash of the mega event, which will take place on 9th March.
Kohli produced a vintage run-chase masterclass to help India chase down a total of 265 with 11 balls to spare in a knock that included five boundaries. Although, India lost both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill early, Kohli put up vital partnership with Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and KL Rahul.

Virat Kohli Sets Multiple World Record

Kohli's half-century on Tuesday (March 4) made him the first player in history to score 10 50+ scores in Knockout matches off ICC tournament across formats. The 36-year-old has made nine half-centuries and one century, which came in the 2023 Cricket World Cup semi-final against New Zealand at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. Kohli has made five half-centuries in semi-finals or finals of T20 World Cups, three in Champions Trophy semi-finals, and one each in the semi-final and final of the Cricket World Cup.

Kohli also broke Sachin Tendulkar's long-lasting record of being the player with the most 50+ scores in ICC ODI events history (World Cup and Champions Trophy). This was the 24th time in his career that the former India captain made more than 50 runs in an ICC tournament in the ODI format. Kohli also crossed 2500 runs in ICC ODI tournament and is the second player to achieve the feat.

Kohli already holds the record for the most runs and 50+ scores in ICC white-ball events (ODI WC, Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup). Kohli has crossed the 50 mark 39 times and has 3883 runs. Rohit Sharma is the only other player to score more than 3000 runs and score a knock of 50 on at least 30 occasions.
Kohli is now the second-highest run-getter in Champions Trophy history with 746 runs in 16 innings at an average of 82.88. He is just 45 runs away from Chris Gayle's world record, which he can break in the final. Kohli is also the first player to score seven 50+ scores in the tournament. Coming into the match, Kohli was level with Shikhar Dhawan, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid with six 50+ scores.
