Shama Mohamed's Rohit Sharma 'Fat' Remark Draws Criticism

Congress spokesperson Dr Shama Mohamed sparked controversy on Monday with her social media posts, in which she referred to Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma as "fat" and "unfit".
In a now-deleted post on X, Shama Mohamed described Rohit Sharma as “fat for a captain” and labeled him one of India’s most "unimpressive" leaders. Following backlash, her party reprimanded her and instructed her to remove the post.
Shama Mohamed also faced criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Congress's political rival, which in turn questioned Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, highlighting the party's multiple election losses under his leadership.
Even after deleting the posts, Shama Mohamed defended her remarks, stating that she had no intention of “body-shaming” Rohit Sharma but was making a general observation. “It was a generic tweet about the fitness of a sportsperson. It was not body-shaming. I always believed a sportsperson should be fit, and I felt he was a bit overweight, so I just tweeted about that. I have been attacked for no reason,” she told news agency ANI.
