Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik shared some hilarious banter with each other before the start of the 2025 Champions Trophy Group stage fixture between India and New Zealand on Sunday (March 2) at the Dubai International Stadium.
India's toss curse extended after Mitchell Santner made the right call and chose to bowl first. This was the 13th consecutive ODI match in which India have lost the toss, which is a world record. Previously, the Netherlands held the record for losing the most tosses in a row in ODI cricket. The Dutchmen lost 11 tosses in succession between 2011 and 2023.
The streak started in the 2023 World Cup final when Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bowl first in a match-changing decision at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Among the 13 tosses India have lost, this is the 10th match which Rohit led the team. The Men in Blue also lost all three tosses under KL Rahul's captaincy in an ODI series against South Africa in December 2023.

Rohit Sharma Mocked By Dinesh Karthik

As soon as India lost the toss, former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik appeared to poke fun at him. Karthik was standing with a few members of the Indian support staff just behind the pitch. As Santner was speaking to the Ian Bishop, Rohit jokingly shooed away his former teammate.

For those unversed, Karthik is part of the official English commentatory team of the tournament with the host broadcaster.
Talking about the match, India posted a total of 249 after a rare top order failure. Shreyas Iyer was the top-scorer with a knock of 79 runs in 98 balls while Axar Patel (42 in 60 balls) and Hardik Pandya (45 in 45 balls) chipped in with important contributions.
Hardik dismissed Rachin Ravindra for six runs while Varun Chakravarthy got the wicket of Will Young in the powerplay too. The Indian spinners spun a web around the New Zealand batting unit to put the Men in Blue on course for the victory.
