India are all set to take on New Zealand in the final Group A game of the Champions Trophy 2025 on March 2 (Sunday) at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai, UAE. India have already reached the semi-final of the competition having defeated Bangladesh and Pakistan in the first two games of the Champions Trophy. There has been speculation that captain Rohit Sharma might rest out the game against New Zealand, after suffering a niggle in his hamstring while fielding against New Zealand. The India captain has dropped a massive hint ahead of the game.
Rohit Sharma put an end to his injury speculations as he came into bat in the nets in the practice session two days before the game against New Zealand. He faced a lot of deliveries from Harshit Rana and Hardik Pandya. As he batted, head coach Gautam Gambhir kept a close eye on him.
KL Rahul Drops Subtle Hint On Playing XI
In the press conference before the Champions Trophy 2025 match against New Zealand, KL Rahul dismissed any fitness concerns within the India squad. However, he revealed that there is a temptation to try the players on the bench before the semi-final, but that won't happen.
“Fitness-wise, there are no concerns about anyone missing a game as far as I know,” Rahul said.
“There are temptations to try different players before the semis, but I am not sure that will be the case. There is little time before the semi-finals, so you would want players to get maximum game time,” he added.
Who Will Captain India If Rohit Sharma Misses Out vs New Zealand?
In case Rohit Sharma does not play against New Zealand on Sunday, then it will be the designated vice-captain Shubman Gill who will captain India in the encounter. There were concerns that Gill was unwell. However, he proved that he was fit before the match as he came out to practice on Thursday, which was an off day.
