Pakistan had a horrific Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. In an ICC tournament that they hosted for the fist time in 29 years, the Men in Green were knocked out in the group stages in just 5 days. This happened after they were comprehensively defeated by New Zealand and India in their first two Group A matches. Their final game against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi was washed out without a ball being bowled, and hence they finished the Champions Trophy bottom of the table without a single point on the board. This terrible performance has even put the Pakistan Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif on notice.
In an interaction with IANS, the Prime Minister’s aide on Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah has stated that Shehbaz Sharif will personally take notice of the horrific performance of the side in the Champions Trophy 2025. In fact, he will also ask the PM to raise these cricket-related issues in the parliament.
“The Prime Minister will personally take notice, and we will also ask him to raise these cricket-related issues in the cabinet as well as in the parliament," Sanaullah stated.
Cricket experts and former players in Pakistan have stated that the structure of cricket at the grassroots level has also deteriorated, leading to a decline of cricket in the country. Rana Sanaullah also stated tha the amount spent on the sport on a professional level should be revealed before the public.
“The sport at college and district levels is in a bad position, and the amount that has been spent on a professional level should be revealed before the public", he added.

Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi's Futures In Danger

According to a report by Cricket Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a comprehensive review of the team's performance after the Champions Trophy 2025 debacle. This might include a massive change in the squad with players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah facing the axe.
Even though head coach Aaqib Javed has stated that he does not want to resign after the Champions Trophy 2025 debacle, the PCB might relieve him of his duties.
