India suffered a massive blow as Mohammed Shami walked out of the field due to fitness concerns against Pakistan. Shami felt some discomfort near the ankle and walked out of the field after bowling just three overs. Shami's fitness will be a concern for Rohit Sharma. The pacer made a comeback to team India after almost missing a year's action due to an injury sustained in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He had a great outing against Bangladesh where he picked five wickets. With Jasprit Bumrah out due to injury, Mohammed Shami was leading in the Indian pace attack. Against Pakistan, Shami did not look in any rhythm and bowled an 11 ball first over which is the longest by an Indian in the ICC Champions Trophy.

Rohit Sharma would hope that the injury is not serious and Shami returns to the field soon. India have opted to go in with two pacers and Hardik Pandya as fast-bowling options. They do have the bowlers to fill in the overs, but spinners at death overs could be a concern.
Meanwhile, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. They made one change to the playing XI and included Imam Ul Haq in place of Fakhar Zaman who was ruled out of the tournament due to injury. India, on the other hand, opted to go in with the same combination.
"Doesn't really matter, they won the toss so we'll bowl first. Looks similar to the last game, the surface is on the slower side. We have an experienced unit in batting so we know what we need to do if the pitches get slower. Need an overall performance from the team - with bat and ball. The last game wasn't an easy one for us, which is always nice. You want to be under pressure and test yourself. We are playing the same team," said Rohit Sharma at the toss.
