The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made a huge mistake before the start of the Australia-England 2025 Champions Trophy match as India's National Anthem was played at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore. The official quickly realised his mistake and played Australia's National Anthem. The video of the incident quickly went viral on social media and it is one of the major talking points on X.
It is to be noted that India haven't travelled to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The Men in Blue are playing their matches in Dubai. The India-Pakistan fixture will also be played in Dubai - on February 23. Should India make it to the second round, their semi-final and final will also be played there.
India haven't travelled to Pakistan since 2008. On the other hand, Pakistan have travelled to India a few times since then. The previous bilateral series between the two nations took place way back in 2012/13 in India. Pakistan also landed in India for the 2016 T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Australia opt to bowl
Talking of the ongoing game, Australia won the toss and opted to field first. The 2009 Champions Trophy winners have been winless for 16 years. Australia, shockingly, haven't won a game since lifting the trophy.
They are without the services of their key pacers, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc for the ICC event. Steve Smith is leading the Kangaroos in Cummins' absence.
England made a forgettable start to their innings and lost 2 wickets before breaching the 50-run mark. The onus is now on Joe Root and captain Jos Buttler to take England to a big score. Root has only played one ODI series since the 2023 World Cup. Both Australia and England aren't in India's group and they will play all their league stage matches in Pakistan.
