India suffered a big blow during the fifth Test of the Australia series as Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back issue. The stand-in captain left the stadium during Australia's first innings and he didn't bowl in their second innings. The fans are eagerly waiting for a word on Bumrah. If he is fit, then Bumrah will lead India's pace attack in the Champions Trophy.
Amid the reports of Bumrah missing the league stage of the Champions Trophy, there is a latest update on him. The Times of India has reported that Bumrah is on bed rest and that he will have to report to BCCI's Centre of Excellence. The report adds that Bumrah will not be rushed back to the game.
The latest update isn't positive and he could miss the Champions Trophy if there is an issue with his back. "Bumrah could go to the CoE next week but right now there is no fixed date yet. He has been advised bed rest at home to help the muscles recover and the swelling to subside. Once that is done, future course of action will be ascertained," a source told TOI.
"Bed rest doesn't sound good. I hope it's not a disc bulge or a muscle swelling which is of a higher grade. The approach has to be similar with him - wrap him in cotton wool and preserve the talent like him."
Bumrah created history in Australia and became the Indian pacer to scalp the most wickets in a series Down Under. He scalped 32 wickets in five Tests. He captained the team in the first and third Tests.
India's only win on the tour came under his captaincy. Bumrah-led India kicked off the series with a win in Perth. They lost the 2nd and 4th Tests under Rohit's captaincy. India lost the five-match Test series 1-3.
Bumrah denies report
Jasprit Bumrah denied the report and slammed it on X. "I know fake news is easy to spread but this made me laugh . Sources unreliable," he wrote. BCCI is yet to provide an official update on Bumrah's fitness. The Champions Trophy squad will be announced on January 19.
