Injury Blow To Star India Batter; Set To Miss Ranji Trophy 2024 After BGT Debacle: Report

India suffered a massive defeat against Australia by a margin of 1-3 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, thus also losing their chance to qualify for the WTC 2025 final. After this defeat, the BCCI passed an informal diktat wherein players were asked to play domestic cricket in order to find themselves in contention for selection in the future. With the second phase of the Ranji Trophy on the horizon, a star Indian batter, who was even part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad is set to miss action due to injury.

According to a report by The Indian Express, star batter Sarfaraz Khan injured his ribs during the Australia tour and hence will not be playing the Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir from January 23.

“He has injured one of his ribs and he has informed us that he won’t be playing the next Ranji Trophy game. As he is contracted with the BCCI, the National Cricket Academy will do his medical assessment and inform us,” a Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official told the publication.

According to the report by The Indian Express, Yashasvi Jaiswal has made himself available for the Ranji Trophy 2024 for the Mumbai side for their next match against Jammu and Kashmir from January 23. He has officially told Mumbai coach Omkar Salvi of his availability.

“He has informed Mumbai coach Omkar Salvi that he is available for the next round of the Ranji Trophy. The selection committee will pick the Mumbai team in the coming days,” an MCA official told the publication.

Rohit Sharma has also joined the Mumbai squad as he had practiced with them after a dismal run of form in Australia. There is still no official confirmation as to whether he will play the next match against Jammu and Kashmir.If he does so, then he will play his first Ranji Trophy for the first time since 2015.
