India are all set to begin their quest for winning their second ICC trophy in a year, when they start their campaign in the Champions Trophy 2025 from February 20. All eyes are currently on what India's squad would look like for the mega tournament. While Rohit Sharma is expected to lead, the squad will likely comprise of superstars like KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. However, it looks like one of the key members of the Indian team is in doubt putting the team's chances in danger in the upcoming tournament.
According to a report by The Indian Express, it is unlikely that Jasprit Bumrah might feature in the India squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. Bumrah injured himself during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He bowled only 8 overs during the fifth Test of the series at Sydney. He was even taken for scans at a nearby hospital. It later came to light that he suffered from back spasms.
Jasprit Bumrah is yet to recover from this injury, as reports have stated that he will not be included in the ODI series vs England. He is set to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to rehabilitate from his injury. He is also reportedly consulting his doctor in New Zealand, who conducted his back surgery in 2022.
Jasprit Bumrah Can Miss 6 Months Of Action
In an interaction with The Times of India, Ramji Srinivasan, former head of BCCI's strength and conditioning department, said that if it is only back spasms then Jasprit Bumrah should be fit. However, he doubts that the injury is related to stress, which is a result of playing too much cricket. In fact, Bumrah could miss one to six months of action if it is between a Grade 1 to Grade 3 stress injury.
“I agree that if it is only spasms, he should be fit. In fact, he might be feeling alright even before he boarded the flight back home. But, I am not so sure about it. The injury is related to stress, which is a direct result of playing too much cricket. If it is anything between a Grade 1 to Grade 3 injury related to stress fracture, it can take up to one to six months of recovery," added Srinivasan.
