India skipper Rohit Sharma is all set to appear for Mumbai's Ranji Trophy practice sessions on Tuesday which can come as a major breakthrough. According to a report in The Indian Express, he has informed the team management that he will be turning up for the practice session for the Ranji Trophy which is scheduled to be held on Tuesday at the Wankhede Stadium.
Rohit Sharma has resumed his training at the MCA-BKC ground to prepare for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Mumbai will make use of a centre-wicket practice for their next Ranji Trophy league game which is to be played at home against Jammu and Kashmir.
Rohit though has not ensured of his availability yet and is still thinking whether to play the Ranji Trophy league match or not.
“He will be coming for practice sessions with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team and it is still not decided whether he will be playing the next Ranji Trophy game against J&K. He will inform the MCA in due course," a source in the Mumbai Cricket Association told The Indian Express.
Rohit's last appearance with Mumbai was a decade back against Uttar Pradesh. He had a series of bad innings in India's tour Down Under, scoring 3, 9, 10, 3 and 6 runs in four Tests, averaging around a dismal 10.93 and then decided to step down from his leadership position for the last Test against Australia in Sydney.
"I would always like everyone to play domestic cricket, if they're available. If you've commitment to play red-ball cricket then play domestic," Gambhir said at the post-match press conference after India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1, conceding it for the first time in 10 years.
The remaining Ranji Trophy round is scheduled to begin from January 23 and it needs to be seen whether ace batter Virat Kohli will also play for Delhi.
