World Champions Australia have named their squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be led by Pat Cummins in the tournament set to take place in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates from 19 February to 9 March.
Cummins has been included in the team despite chief selector George Bailey revealing an injury scare for the Australian captain during the Sydney Test against India. Cummins will not play the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka set to start later this month due to personal reasons but is also dealing with an ankle issue with no clarity yet on his fitness.
It is worth noting that Australia can make changes to their squad till 13th February if Cummins does not recover in time.
The squad for the marquee event retains the core of the team that won the 2023 World Cup in India with only three changes as the retired David Warner, injured Cameron Green, and Sean Abbott make way for Matthew Short, Aaron Hardie, and Nathan Ellis.
Josh Hazlewood is also fit and part of the squad after missing out on the last two Test matches against India as well as the tour of Sri Lanka. Despite being dropped from the Test team, Mitchell Marsh has retained his spot in the team.
Opening batter Jake Fraser-McGurk, who is widely regarded as one of the most talented youngsters in Australia, has failed to make the cut after failing to impress for Australia in international cricket so far. He has made just 87 runs in 5 ODIs and 113 runs in 7 T20Is so far in his career. The 22-year-old's lean run of form has also continued in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL), where he has made just 86 runs in eight innings so far this season.
The same squad will also play a one-off ODI against Sri Lanka in Hambantota on 13th February. The Men in Yellow are in Group B of the Champions Trophy alongside England, South Africa, and Afghanistan.
