A video of the outskirts of the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore has gone viral on social media, raising questions over the Pakistan Cricket Board's preparation for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Pakistan are racing against time to complete the renovation of their stadiums before the tournament. They look to be well behind their schedule.
The PCB has undertaken a huge task of overhauling its stadiums before the Champions Trophy. The current pictures across the three stadiums aren't very promising and a recent video from the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore gives fire to the fuel.
Pakistan vouched that their renovations will be complete by the time the sides reach the Champions Trophy, but that looks far from possible as the recent videos don't paint a promising picture. Watch the video here:
Last year, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi admitted that none of Pakistan's international cricket venues met standards.
"There is a huge difference in international stadiums and those of ours. None of our stadiums are of international standard," Naqvi said, justifying the Pakistan Cricket Board's initiative to renovate the stadiums.
With India not travelling to Pakistan because of political and safety reasons, multiple games are all set to be played at the Dubai International Stadium.
Meanwhile, PCB has rubbished speculations that the ICC Champions Trophy will be moved out of the nation because of delayed construction work at three stadiums that will host the event, beginning February 19.
The venues in Pakistan organising the Champions Trophy are Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium and Karachi's National Bank Stadium, while India will play all its games in Dubai.
According to a report in PTI, an earlier statement about the stadium's work progress was given out due to speculation in the media that the Champions Trophy would be moved out due to incomplete work at the venues.
