The BCCI announced the India squad for the five-match T20I series against England. The highlight of the squad was the return of Mohammed Shami who made a comeback to the team after a long layoff due to ankle injury. Shami last played for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia. Shami made a return to cricket in the Ranji Trophy and played T20 games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. Shami was in line to play the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but his return was delayed due to swelling in knees.
Meanwhile, the T20 squad saw most of the players who played the T20I series against South Africa retained. While senior players like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant, were available for selection, the BCCI decided to stick with the players from the previous tour. The move would give the players much-needed rest before the ODI series against England and the following ICC Champions Trophy.
Along with Mohammed Shami, four more players were added to the India squad for the England T20I series. The likes of Jitesh Sharma, Ramandeep Singh, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Avesh Khan and Yash Dayal were left out and were replaced by Nitsh Reddy, Harshit Rana, Dhruv Jurel, Mohammed Shami, Washington Sundar.
