India are all set to return to white-ball cricket after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy loss, as they take on England in a five-match T20I series beginning from January 22 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The BCCI have already announced the squad for the series, and there have been quite a few big names who will take part under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav. There are also some players who are integral in the T20I setup but have not been selected in the side. One such player is Yashasvi Jaiswal, who misses out from the squad after a stellar show against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Why Yashasvi Jaiswal Has Not Been Selected For T20I Series Vs England
Yashasvi Jaiswal is considered an integral part of the T20I setup for India. In fact, a report in The Indian Express stated that he was a certainty to be included for the T20I series vs England. However, when BCCI announced the squad for the series, Jaiswal's name was nowhere to be found.
This most likely means that Jaiswal will be part of the squad for the ODI series against England, and then subsequently the Champions Trophy 2025, like many reports have earlier stated. The young opener has thus been given a rest to manage his workload ahead of the important ICC tournament. This could also mean that he might be in contention to become the first-choice opener ahead of Shubman Gill in ODIs.
Mohammed Shami Returns
The biggest news coming out of the squad announced by BCCI is that Mohammed Shami returns to the Team India setup after missing more than a year of action due to injury. Instead of Yashasvi Jaiswal, one can expect Abhishek Sharma to open the innings with Sanju Samson.
