Will Virat Kohli Lead Royal Challengers Bangalore In IPL 2025? Andy Flower Makes BIG Reveal (Photo credit: IPL)
Former Zimbabwe cricketer and Royal Challengers Bangalore head coach Andy Flower has said that it is a new era that the franchise is going into and there have been no discussions as of yet on the leadership candidates for IPL 2025. Bangalore are looking for a new captain after Faf du Plessis was released ahead of the mega auction.
After the IPL 2025 mega auction, Bangalore are not spoilt for choices as far as leadership is concerned. Kohli remains a firm and probably the best option, having led the team in the past and having extensive leadership experience at the international level as well.
Other players in the team like Rajat Patidar, Krunal Pandya, Liam Livingstone, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Phil Salt have little leadership experience but are secondary options rather than foremost options.
"Well, you're going to have to wait for the outcome. It's a new era that we are going into, the start of a three-year cycle and I am sure the anticipation will be good for you," Flower said while speaking to Sports Tak.
"You can ask me as often as you like, but that communication has not happened yet," the head coach added.
Kohli was the stand-in skipper in the fifth Test against Australia last week after Rohit Sharma 'rested' himself and Jasprit Bumrah left the venue for some scans.
Kohli was appointed Bangalore's full-time captain in 2013. He guided the side to the finals in 2016 and eventually stepped down from the position in 2021.
Since then, Kohli has served as the next best man to Du Plessis and was often seen in his ear during the matches. In IPL 2023, he served as the captain for a few games when du Plessis was nursing an injury and had to feature as the impact player.
