England batter James Vince, who represents the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, on Thursday, took a seagull out with his big shot in Melbourne. In the second innings of the games, Vince smacked Australia medium-pacer Joel Paris straight down the ground on the fifth delivery of the tenth over. The ball ended up landing straight on the seagull which was perched near the boundary.
The ball rolled over for a boundary, leaving the bird hurt as it lay on the ground fluttering its wings. The seagull looked in dire straits as the ball hit it with full force.
The ground staff took away the bird for some treatment even as Vince was seen being concerned for it. Watch the video here:
Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell's heroics inspired the Melbourne Stars to an important 16-run upset of the table-toppers Sixers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, keeping their slim BBL Finals chances alive.
Maxwell, whose ambition to play Tests has died a slow death over time, belted a match-high unbeaten 58 and took two crucial catches in the deep.
Skipper Marcus Stoinis couldn't contribute a lot, but he bagged 2/30 in a valuable contribution with the ball. England batter Ben Duckett appeared to have cost the Stars when he dropped compatriot Vince on 36.
But Maxwell made no mistake when he hung on to a high catch in the deep, leading to Vince losing his wicket for 53. He almost spilt the chance as well and stayed on the ground for a long time out of pure relief.
Stuck in a deep hole at 64/4 at the halfway mark of their innings, the Stars were rescued by an 88-run partnership between Maxwell and Border-Gavaskar Trophy hero Beau Webster.
During Maxwell's blazing 32-ball innings, he became the fifth player in BBL History to reach 3000 career runs, joining Chris Lynn, Aaron Finch, D'Arcy Short and Moises Henriques.
