  • Fakhar has not played for Pakistan since the 2024 T20 World Cup
  • Fakhar is aiming to make a comeback in the 2025 Champions Trophy
Fakhar Zaman made a bold prediction ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy and predicted that the 22-year-old Pakistan star will soon be known among the top three players in the world. Pakistan is set to host a global event after 29 years and will pick its squad for the mega event later this week ahead of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) deadline on Sunday (January 12).
Saim Ayub's fitness status is the biggest talking point ahead of the selection after the left-handed batter suffered a freak ankle injury on the field during the second Test against South Africa at Cape Town last week. Ayub has taken all three formats by storm in the last couple of months for Pakistan at the top of the order. The 22-year-old has scored three ODI centuries in his last six outings, including two in the three-match series against South Africa, which helped them whitewash the Proteas 3-0 and become the first team in history to achieve the rare feat.
Fakhar made a bold claim and claimed that Ayub will be known among the top three players in the world if he plays for another 4-5 years.
"I hope Saim will recover quickly He is such a great player that if he plays for the next four to five years, he will be among the top three players in the world," said Fakhar on the Vipers Voice Podcast.
Fakhar's own place in the squad for the mega event is under doubt after he was not picked in Pakistan's white-ball squads in any format for the tour of Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. However, the 34-year-old expressed confidence that he will make a comeback.
"A 100%, I will play for Pakistan (again). Actually, many people do not know about that, but after the T20 World Cup I got sick and because of the medical condition I was not fit, so I was not a part of the team."But now I [have] recovered 100%, and you will see me in the next white-ball series which Pakistan play," said Fakhar.
Fakhar was the star of Pakistan's win in the 2017 Champions Trophy with a memorable ton against India in the final..
