MS Dhoni will be seen donning the Chennai Super Kings shirt again in IPL 2025. The 43 year old has been retained by the five time IPL champions as an uncapped player.
The IPL Governing Council brought back the old rule which was scrapped in 2021. As per this new rule, a player who doesn't have a BCCI central contract or hasn’t played for India in the last five years can be retained as an uncapped player.
It helped CSK to retain the service of their favourite ‘Thala’ for a mere 4 crore and also didn’t take a toll on their auction budget. Dhoni’s retirement from IPL has bene the subject of a major debate.
IPL 2024 was mooted to be his final season in IPL but with the wicketkeeper confirming his appearance next season it remains to be seen whether he will hang up his boots after the next campaign.
Dhoni has been in top shape as he has looked good in IPL 2024. Despite not being involved in competitive cricket, the CSK star has maintained his fitness and recently revealed the secret of how he has kept himself fit.
During a conversation with Eurogrip, Dhoni mentioned that apart from eating the right food and working out in the gym he also plays a lot of sports including padel.
“So, what really helps me is, apart from in between eating the right things and going to the gym, is playing a lot of sports. So, whenever I get time, you know, if I'm in a good physical state, I like to play a lot of different sports, you know. Maybe tennis, it may be badminton, it may be football, it may be padel.”
The player was also asked about his favourite sports apart from cricket and he replied, “Badminton, but it's very tough. You know, at school level and all, I played, but mostly we used to play doubles. So, I feel it's fun, but amongst the newer sport, I would pick paddle, you know.”
